Sauerkraut is shredded cabbage (it deserves to be shredded) that has fermented. Its origins began in Germany, and probably spread throughout the world during the industrial revolution (when there were actual means of spreading things).
Sauerkraut has a sour taste, but actually tastes much better than one would ever expect. Itís most at home with bratwurst, or on hot dog.
Sauerkraut became an official snack on June 6th 2012.
