Ravioli consists of two ‘sheets’ of pasta that have trapped additional ingredients between them. It is one of the most recognizable food creations from Italy. It follows a “tried–and–true” format of using a carbohydrate as a vehicle to transport food, and then shrinking the whole package into a portable, bite–sized chunk. One might consider ravioli a sort of sandwich of the pasta world.
Ravioli is a fairly spectacular food. It has many different variations, but is commonly filled with meat or cheese and is topped with marinara sauce. Ravioli is fun due to its size, varying shape, and unique construction.
Ravioli became an official snack on May 12th 2012.
