Popcorn refers to corn kernels that have been heated to a point that their insides have exploded and transformed them into a radical shape. Roughly 95% of all popcorn is served in movie theaters due to the fact that its preparation process is sympathetic to most feature-length films in that they strive to ‘pop’ to the audience.
Popcorn is most often covered in melted butter, but can also be found coated in things like chocolate, caramel, cheese, sugar, and more. It tastes good, but often leaves one unsatisfied. Popcorn is rare in that it is one of the few snacks that is arguably more fun to prepare than it is to consume.
Popcorn became an official snack on May 7th 2012.
